Google to Sell Motorola Lenovo

Lenovo has announced a deal with Google to buy Motorola's handset division valued at 2.91 billion U.S. dollars ( about Rp 35 trillion ). As reported by Reuters, this is the largest technology transaction Lenovo so far.

Google bought Motorola for $ 12.5 billion in 2012. Purchase this time include the handset division, but I still have most of Motorola's patents, which is often referred to as the asset purchase motivation when it's Google.

In addition, Google also still will have a research division Motorola, Advanced Technology and Projects ( which includes Project Ara ). While Lenovo will have a license to use the technology developed from there.

The deal still has to go through approval first before it could be implemented, both the U.S. and Chinese government approval.

Lenovo will pay 600 million dollars in cash and 750 million U.S. dollars in the form of ordinary shares. In addition, some $ 1.5 billion will be paid in the form of bonds.

" The acquisition of the iconic brand, with a portfolio of innovative products and a global team that is very talented as this will make Lenovo's strong global competitor in the smartphone arena, " said CEO of Lenovo, Yang Yuanqing.
